Lafayette Trail Marker Unveiling

On Sunday, November 16, 2025, HHRA Chair Larry Armstrong and The Lafayette Trail, Inc. President Julien Icher, unveiled the Lafayette Trail marker near the historic Willie  Jones “Grove” Plantation. The marker reads: “LAFAYETTE’S TOUR ON FEB 28, 1825, GENERAL LAFAYETTE VISITED MARY JONES, WIDOW OF REV. WAR PATRIOT WILLIE JONES, AT HER HOME PRIOR TO LEAVING FOR RALEIGH.”

This is the 174th marker placed by the Lafayette Trail, Inc. The trail sign program is administered by the corporation and underwritten by the William G. Pomeroy Foundation

HHRA presented The Halifax Resolves Award to the Perquimans County Restoration Association during Halifax Day on April 12. Accepting the award were Pam and Geoff Byrd, who brought the periauger to Halifax. Also pictured are NC Secretary of Cultural Resources Pamela Cashwell and HHRA President Larry Armstrong.

As part of the commemoration of the 200th anniversary of the Marquis de Lafayette’s Farewell Tour of the United States in 1825, the Historical Halifax Restoration Association and the Enfield Lafayette Planning Committee collaborated on a project aimed at actively involving students in learning about his role in the American Revolutionary War.
